Agreed Jason. Activating a/group of muscles we want working for a specific movement prior to the movement can be highly effective. The first cue was probably effective for him because he acknowledged feeling/understanding the tension in his low back. Therefore he was able to attempt at maintaining it. The sensation in his hips from the second cue was probably new and gave him a different approach to maintaining tention helping to achieve the desired result (minimal loss of lumbar curve at the bottom of a squat). Love it when people share ideas. We can work on touching our knees to our shoulders today!

I like Evan in the corner laughing like a James Bond villain. All that's missing is a cat in his hands.
Photoshop Contest!
Matt- exactly what I was thinking. Coach is having too much fun watching us suffer!

I think:
1) if we ran the 2 of you side by side. And...
2) had balanced (non-warped and misshaped) wallballs
That we would see this WOD performed in under 5:00 minutes (and I will go so far as to say, under 4:30)
That is my prediction for 2011.
... I'll see you all next year.
I sure tried though... I can't deny that I came in with the advantage already knowing your time.
I do long for the balanced wall-ball. Though I suppose what doesn't kill you...
instead leaves wall-ball sized imprints on your face.
~6:35, subbed 55lb db thrusters for wallballs.
