It does look good doesn't it! I couldn't leave the nutrition conversation hanging and thought the timing was perfect to watch the teeter-totter nutrition video's again.

Mary had a little lamb... and potatoes, and applesauce...

That's a nice chop in that picture.

Hi Jason! Speaking of cats, here's a video I think you'd like. I've watched it an embarrassing number of times and it makes me laugh every time. Nothing like watching a cat giving a smackdown.

you asked for comments on the video, so here goes...

nice video with some good points. nutrition is so paramount to performance, especially when it comes to whole foods and not just looking at macronutrient profiles. that's really my one beef with zone though, i know it has given phenomenal results to many people, but i think it is too focused on the prescribed macronutrient profile of 40/30/30. each individual athlete has their own individual needs (including differing rates of fat utilization), and that could very well result in a ratio of macronutrient use different from the zone ratio, even if just slightly. for example, jolie gentry was paleo zone for a good long while but in an effort to boost her numbers she went unweighed unmeasured paleo, listening to her body's natural cravings/needs. turns out she performs best at half the carb blocks and about double the fat blocks. so, i think tinkering with your own n=1 experimentation is the best way to determine optimal performance nutrition. paleo is definitely the way to go for food quality (in my opinion), i just don't buy in to the hard and fast zone ratios that are generally prescribed. that said, do what works for you. unweighed unmeasured works best for me.

sorry for the rant! i'm all energized after some good squatting tonight.

So my post-WOD meal tonight was a very nutritious, delicious, filling, and absolutely and curiously strange several bites of each of the following: pineapple, brocolli, ginger (a small piece of crystalline ginger aka sugary), mulberries, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, egg whites (4 large), chicken, turkey bacon, cocoa nibs. And a little organic cream in my tea :) My meals are never quite so odd, but just bc of the topic today I thought I would post for entertainment's sake. I cannot watch videos at work, but I look forward to the video you guys posted, thanks!

I have my opinions (imagine that!), but will save them for later. I have a pull-up cage to build!

jason, i was unaware that the zone percentages were modifiable. that's reassuring to hear. agreed that they would be a good starting point for someone starting fresh with no idea what they need.

build, evan, build! more toys!

Whoo hoo pull up cage! Hey I know what we all can agree on- getting processed foods (including refined sugars) out of your diet is the best way to start any overhaul of eating habits. Cupcakes count, but then again we are all only human and life sure can get stressful and definitely is too short... so make them with whole foods! Okay, then it is not a cupcake... let me process that.

Lets put this to rest right now... cupcakes come from the cupcake tree, which is in the same family as the oreo, donut and chocolate chip cookie tree. While these trees now be extinct, they existed alongside paleolithic man and through the wonder of modern science, nabisco, betty crocker and crumbs they exist again today and as these are just recreations of what paleolithic man had available to him they are paleo friendly.

Now if only someone could recreate mastadon...

Nice post Rachel! Her desserts look amazing. However, upon digging deeper it was sad to discover this girl is having severe health issues by eating no meat for an extended period of time. I am impressed that she was able to switch back and am glad that I did not experience the same issues. I was also a not meat eater for about 3 years, based upon my mother's current "health-food" advice.

"The tests came back indicating that my thyroid is on the low end of normal, I have low levels of iron, B6, and B12, in addition to some adrenal fatigue."

"After 13 years of vegetarianism I'm eating meat."

Additionally, with the lack of protein consumption diabetes could be lurking in her future. Hopefully not!
