Ok, I keep promising to post this...so here it goes!
I custom mix my protein shakes from True Protein (http://www.trueprotein.com/custom_product.aspx) and absolutely love them. There are no unnecessary chemicals or ingredients that I do not want in my body. Currently I have two variations, one for immediately after workouts and another for before bed. The one before bed I mix with whole milk and a scoop or two of ice cream and the one after a workout I mix with water. I used to use Muscle Milk before bed, but it is expensive and contains a ton of crap I don't want. If you click on an ingredient you are interested in, it will pop-up with an explanation of it and a description of how it is absorbed in the body, etc.
Before bed:
Calcium Caseinate 50%
Egg White Protein 10%
Whey Protein Isolate
Cold-Filtration 40%
+ NATURAL Premium Chocolate
+ **UNSWEETENED**
+ **Plain**
The egg white protein is probably unnecessary and I could sub in 10% more Whey, but I kinda like the salty taste it adds. I really like this chocolate flavor too, not chalky at all!
After Workout:
Whey Protein Isolate Cold-Filtration 45%
Fructose 40%
Branch Chain Amino Acids INSTANTIZED (BCAA's) 10%
Glutamine Peptides 5%
+ Premium Citrus Lime-Ade
+ **UNSWEETENED**
+ **Plain**
For this one I only added Whey because it absorbs quickly. I also added a decent amount of carbs. Glutamine and BCAA's are great after a workout for muscle recovery! This one is new and I have yet to try it. I have had the citrus Lime-Aid flavor (but in another mix) and love it. It tastes like Gatorade!
Ok, so I know that protein shakes did not have "a face and a soul" before I consume them...but they are a great quick source of added nutrients that supplement real food...NOT REPLACE IT!
My only negative to the site is the shipping. It is not cheap when ordering only a few pounds. Thus, I tend to order in bulk. My last order was 11 pounds and shipping was $15. I know Super Cameron is interested in ordering some, so if anyone else is interested you might want to chat with him and combine orders. Just a thought...
You and I are reading a different Zone book then. Mine distinctly says to eat ice cream every night. That's my story and I am sticking to it!
And this:

I am with Cameron on the Ice Cream.
Some of my best shakes consist of whole milk, kefir, whey protein powder (EAS), green veggie powder, strawberries,peanut-butter, ice cream & a scoop coffee grounds!
MMMMMM yummy :)
Now that is a shake Mandi! WOW!
Your shakes sound a little more calculated Cameron. I bet they are great, thanks for posting these recipes.
Where do frappuccinos fit in this "zone"?
You know, I don't think I've been to a Cert. where I haven't seen a coach carrying a cup from Starbucks.
Makinzie's drink of choice is a tall coffee with an organic sugar-free whipped cream (literally, just cream that has been whipped, no sugar added). Many go Black (like me) or go for some milk or cream, with no sugar.
For fun - Here's the Nutritional Facts to Starbucks:
http://www.starbucks.com/retail/nutrition_comparison_popup.asp
Divide the total carbohydrates by 9 to determine the Carb. Block content of any beverage on the list. - Eye opening.
when i was at the nutrition cert, robb wolf referred to all frappoccinos/cappuccinos/etc as "CRAPuccinos" !!!!!
needless to say i cant live without my carmel macchiato so everything in moderation right?!?
Evan:
I believe I saw a breakdown once where a Venti Mocha Frappuccino was the caloric (and moral) equivalent of drinking a liquefied Big Mac.
The fact that that mental image has not deterred me from drinking them regularly proves that there must be a special form of crack in them and I am addicted.
Caffeine is the new gateway drug! Pass the word...
Black coffee is the only way to go. Ground coffee in ice cream, now that's a hardcore fix for your daily caffeine regiment.
Cam those shakes look like they could do some good.
