From Josh's tosses, it looks like he brings the bar down as close to the thigh as possible keeping the barbell in a vertical line from above his head down to the ground, then back up with the same path.
I agree with Jason here, that must take a good bit or coordination and accuracy to hit that path each time, rep after rep.
In the beginning of the workout the most efficient lifters took the bar from the overhead position to the ground in one continuous motion, tapped the ground and then rebounded. As people fatigued and their form began to fail, the bar started to come down to the chest and/or thigh before continuing on to the ground. This likely allowed them to reset their core muscles and regain their balance so as to spring into the next rep once the weights touch the ground. If they did not start doing this, the bar would travel eccentrically at too high of a rate of speed and likely result in the weight bouncing off the ground without the muscles being set for the next lift.
Are we doing power or squat???
isn't this Isabell and grace combined?
*whimpers that this is what she comes home to and wonders if she can find her way back to the beach before 5pm*
Jason - The 6:15 class will begin next week on Tuesday the 14th.
Maggie - Yes, it's Isabelle & Grace with light weight.
Excellent observations on the eccentric phase of the movement and how it relates to speed.
Just as the push-back motion on the pull-up bar sets you up for your next rep, the decent is an integral part of cyclical lifting.
And Jason's right Laura, you got this.
